Desktop Game Toolkit
Display 3D objects, sprites, and UMG over the Windows desktop. Choose whether the game receives input or passes mouse clicks to other windows. Use Selected Display for one monitor or All Displays for one scene spanning all connected monitors.
In Unreal Editor, the plugin is named Desktop Game Window Toolkit. Its identifier is DesktopGameToolkit.
Get started
- Install and configure the plugin.
- Follow Quick Start to build your startup flow.
- Add hotkeys, window controls, or a display selector.
Startup behavior
With Enable Packaged Desktop Mode enabled, the host opens automatically when the game is ready. Every launch starts Opaque, Interactive, and Always On Top, without a registered hotkey.
Wait for the host, register Set Desktop Toggle Hotkey, then request Transparent. Registration must succeed each launch. The shortcut toggles Interactive / ClickThrough while Transparent; it does not toggle transparency.
Input applies to the entire window rectangle. Clear pixels still receive clicks in Interactive mode. ClickThrough passes clicks through visible objects and widgets too.
Environment
These guides cover UE 5.5, Win64 clients on Windows 10/11, and DX11 SM5 / DX12 SM6. Test a packaged game or a separate Standalone process with -DGTStandalonePreview; in-viewport PIE is unsupported. HDR, Remote Desktop, and mixed-GPU setups are unvalidated.
